Amy’s Kitchen
After pulling a muscle in her leg and being pregnant with the couples first child in 1987, Rachel Berliner ask her husband, Andy, to go to the local health food store to buy some healthy organic frozen dinners. Andy scoured the health food store in order to fulfill Rachel’s request only to return home with a bland lasagna dinner. Soon afterwards, Rachel and Andy decided to start Amy’s Kitchen, named after there first born. Their goal was to create healthy organic foods that were not only nutritious, but also flavorful. Now nearly 25 years later, Amy’s Kitchen is the nation’s top-selling brand of natural and organic convenience foods.
At Amy’s Kitchen, they continue to make food in much the same way as you do at home. They use only the freshest organic vegetables available. Amy’s purchases high-quality pastas, grains, beans and hormone free dairy products from cows that are pasture raised. Everything is prepared by hand. Their sauces are prepared in several stages and slow cooked until they reach their fullest flavor.
Amy’s is also very sensitive to their customers’ dietary needs and food allergies. They are mindful of the fact that many of their customers follow special diets, whether for an allergy related illness or just simply to live a healthier lifestyle and to avoid chronic illnesses. They understand that 1 in 25 people in the United States suffer from a food allergy, and take measures to ensure their safety.
Amy’s Kitchen’s “Dairy Free” products do not contain lactose or milk proteins. If you would like to avoid milk proteins or dairy completely, you should only purchase Amy’s products that are labeled “Dairy Free”, “Non-dairy” or “Vegan”. Those needing Gluten-Free products should look for the items clearly marked as Gluten-Free.
They also understand how hard it can be for individuals, especially for children and young adults, to limit their consumption of age-old favorites including Pizzas, Lasagnas and Macaroni and Cheese. That’s why they’ve created 70 non-dairy and vegan options; try two of our family favorites are the Enchilada with Spanish Rice & Beans and their Gluten-Free Non-Diary Burrito.
Need to lose a couple of pounds? Amy’s offers a two-week plan where you eat their meals 2-3 times a day plus lots of fruits and veggies. It is an easy-to-follow and you can expect to lose two pounds a week (some lose more). There is a 1500-calorie and 1800-calorie option — both far below the average American diet of 2200-2700 calories per day and are still tasty and satisfying!
